Summer is not over at the Minnesota Zoo!
Many great exhibits and events planned to round out summer
Apple Valley, MINN – August 5, 2009: – Summer is winding down but the fun doesn’t have to! The Minnesota Zoo provides unique exhibits and events through Labor Day that will be fun for the whole family!
August 8 and 9
This weekend marks the Minnesota Zoo’s Family Farm Festival at the Wells Fargo Family Farm.
Enjoy some good old-fashioned fun with blacksmith demonstrations, tractor displays, music and kid’s activities each day. Guests can stop by the Dairy Barn and watch a cow milking demonstration, take a ride on the Farm wagon, and meet “Princess Kay of the Milky Way!”
August 14
New for guests is “Brew at the Zoo,” a beer sampling event that features many different local domestic/microbrews, a sampling glass, complimentary appetizers, and live music from headliner G.B. Leighton with opening act Grayson. What could be better than enjoying a cold, frothy beer on a warm summer evening? (RSVP’s required by visiting mnzoo.org).
August 29
The Tiger Tracks 5K Run is the perfect opportunity to get some exercise while taking in the views of the Zoo! This wild run will start at the Puma Pavilion, weave into the Zoo, and around the Northern Trail. Bring the whole family for a brisk morning run, then slow down the pace and enjoy a day at the Zoo. All proceeds from the run support the Zoo’s conservation programs.
Open Through September 7 (Labor Day)
The Africa! journey isn’t over yet! There is still time to experience the six-acre exhibit which is home to giraffes, zebras, gemsbok, wildebeest, and ostriches. Don’t forget to feed a giraffe while you’re here.
Another exhibit you don’t want to miss is the Aveda Butterfly Garden. This unique exhibit features 40 different species of butterflies and moths, fluttering in a beautiful landscaped environment. This interactive exhibit demonstrates the butterfly life cycle, including stages as a caterpillar, chrysalis or cocoon, and adult. Zoo staff and volunteers will explain various butterfly "duties" including pollination, mating, and egg-laying.
Open through the Season (until the snow falls)
When you visit the Zoo, make sure to stop at the Woodland Adventure! This new nature-based, Minnesota-themed play area is located on the Zoo's Central Plaza and is the only place children can explore a bear’s den, sit in a huge eagle’s nest, climb over giant turtle shells, and play in a tree house
