Frequently Asked Questions
Can I have a party for 2 children together?
We do allow combined parties for 2 children. Please note that party packages include a gift for the birthday child. An additional gift for the second birthday child can be purchased for $5.
My Child is not 3 or older. Can we still have a birthday party at the Zoo?
The Minnesota Zoo birthday party package is geared toward children ages 3 and up. Since the educational presentation, craft and game(s) included in the package are intended for an older child, depending on the situation and if communicated ahead of time we may be able to accommodate your request by making adjustments to the party (i.e. substituting storytime instead of bingo, coloring sheets instead of a craft, etc.).
What is the Zoo’s cancellation policy?
If you have to cancel your party, your money will be refunded less a $50.00 service fee. You may also reschedule the party within 2 months of the original date of the party. You may only reschedule once.
Some of my guests have Zoo memberships. Do I still have to include them in the total number of guests?
Our birthday party package fee covers the cost of Zoo admission and more. Therefore, your final guest count includes ALL children and adults in the party room during the birthday party, whether they are members or not.
Are the birthday child and his/her parents included in the total guest count?
Yes, your final guest count must include everyone in the party room, including the birthday child and parents.
Can we rent the room for an extended period of time?
No, because birthday parties are scheduled back-to-back with only a brief time in between for party preparation.
Are there a maximum number of guests for a party?
Due to room size and staffing requirements, birthday parties are limited to a maximum number of 40 people.
What should I expect during the party?
You and your guests should plan to arrive 15 minutes before the birthday party is scheduled to begin. Your party host will meet you at Guest Services a few minutes before the party start time and will escort you and your guests to the private party room. Your party host will give an educational presentation with animal artifacts and lead an animal themed craft and one or more games as time permits. Cake and juice will be served (along with any other food ordered beforehand from Lancer Catering). You and your guests are free to tour the Zoo on your own either before or after the party, depending on the party time selected.
Can we store food or presents?
Yes, we can hold birthday gifts and leftover cake/juice for you at Guest Services while you explore the Zoo.
Can I bring in my own decorations?
The Minnesota Zoo’s party room is decorated with marine animal silhouettes. Because of time constraints, outside decorations are not allowed. For the safety of the animals, balloons, glitter, confetti, straws, bubbles, noisemakers and whistles are not permitted anywhere inside the Zoo.
Can I bring food to the party?
Outside food (except for an allergy substitution) is not allowed. Your party will include one themed pull-apart cupcake “cake” and beverages for 15 people. Birthday cakes are made in a facility that uses nuts (therefore, if you have a person with an allergy, you may bring something appropriate for that person). Additional cake & juice may be purchased with your reservation. If you wish to have other food (such as pizza, hot dogs, or snacks), Lancer Catering will be happy to assist you (contact Lindsay at 952-953-6886 or email@example.com). You may bring any extra cake or juice home with you after the party, but any other remaining food items can not be taken home due to food safety considerations.
