The Minnesota Zoo employs about 220 full-time, part-time, and intermittent staff. That number grows to between 270 and 300 with the addition of temporary staff during the spring and summer months. The Minnesota Zoo employs people from a wide variety of backgrounds. In addition to typical "zoo jobs" such as veterinary technicians, interpretive naturalists, zookeepers, zoologists, and veterinarians, the business end of the Zoo requires people with many different skills, from accountants and marketing staff, to carpenters and guest services staff. The Minnesota Zoo is a state agency and its employees are public employees, with salary and benefits set by union contracts and compensation plans. Over the course of a year, the Zoo receives over two thousand applications for employment. All of our positions are highly competitive with a majority of positions requiring related experience and education. Although we have positions open from time to time during the year, our largest recruitment period begins in March and lasts through mid-May, when we begin filling our summer positions. Zoo Employment Opportunities Interpretive Naturalist Supervisor 2 Responsibilities: This full-time position will supervise, design, develop, implement and evaluate school and teacher education programs for the Minnesota Zoo. This position is also responsible for the development, organization, evaluation and supervision of staff and program objectives as outlined in annual and strategic plans. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST 3, NETWORK This position will manage information resources including file servers, audio/video systems, and the telephone system at the Minnesota Zoo. In concert with department members, this positions primary support includes but is not limited to: Ensuring file servers are operational and secure, ensuring audio and video systems are operational for both guests and employees, managing the telephone system, making recommendations and designing solutions regarding technology related to file servers and audio/video systems, operating system and application installation and their patch management, system disaster recovery and restoration, wireless, fiber optic and copper based networking deployment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants are required to have: a minimum of 3 years experience with Microsoft and Novell servers, including configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting; and virtual server management experience. Applicants are required to show working knowledge of: audio/visual systems, connecting computers to projectors and troubleshooting those connections; IP camera systems, configuration and management; Microsoft PowerPoint; data backup and restoration; and installation, configuration, and maintenance of a general server and file-sharing environment supporting 5 or more servers. PREFERRED SKILLS: 1. Experience working with VMware. This position requires occasionally lifting and moving articles such computers, computer monitors, and printers. Applicants must be able to access and/or install equipment in high, low, and tight places. Applicants must be able to climb and balance on ladders and be able to work in exhibit areas. ANIMAL HEALTH SPECIALIST The Minnesota Zoo is seeking applications for a full-time position of Animal Health Specialist. This position will work in the Animal Health Department along with another animal health specialist, three veterinarians, two hospital keepers, a zoologist, and a clerical assistant. Duties will include assisting the veterinarians with examinations, radiographs, necropsy procedures, chemical restraint, anesthesia, and surgery, perform specialized clinical laboratory tests, and recordkeeping. Minimum qualifications: An applicant must be a registered, licensed, or certified Veterinary Technician and must become certified in the State of Minnesota within six months of being hired; PLUS an applicant must have a minimum of one year full-time experience as a registered, licensed, or certified veterinary technician at a zoo, aquarium, or related exotic facility or have a minimum of two years full-time experience as a registered, licensed, or certified veterinary technician at a veterinary practice which sees exotic animal patients as part of the practice.
