Teenage Volunteer Opportunities
Summer Camp ZooTeens The 2009 ZooTeen program is full and we are no longer accepting applications. Thinking about summer vacation already? Wondering what you can do that's different and exciting. How about becoming a Zooteen at the Minnesota Zoo? Zooteens assist with our Summer Camp Program as camp aides helping the Zoo's Naturalist Staff. Duties include snack preparation, participation in tours and learning activities, assisting with craft projects, and interacting with children in the camps to encourage their involvement in the session. While the Zooteen Program operates primarily the summer months of the year, Zooteens who have completed the training are invited throughout the year to help with children's craft projects and costume characters for special events and holiday activities. Please note that acceptance into this program involves a selection process, and not all teenagers who apply will be accepted into the program. Come on Over and Volunteer at the Wells Fargo Family Farm The 2009 Family Farm program is full and we are no longer accepting applications. Farm volunteers need to be a minimum of 15 years of age through adulthood, and able to average a one-day-a-week commitment to the Zoo from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Training takes place in April and May. Farm Volunteer Candidates Must be...
While the Wells Fargo Family Farm Volunteer Program operates primarily the summer months of the year, Farm Volunteers who have participated in May training classes are invited to help with our popular Farm Babies event held in the spring of each year. Applications for summer 2010 will be available after January 1, 2010. Summer Seasonal Volunteers The 2009 Summer seasonal program is no longer accepting applications. Visit Africa and Russia’s Grizzly Coast on your summer vacation next year! Back for an encore presentation, the Africa! exhibit returns for the summer of 2009 at the Minnesota Zoo. We are recruiting volunteers to interpret at this very popular exhibit, as well at Russia’s Grizzly Coast and in the Discovery Bay. Training will be provided so that you will be able to share information and experiences for young and old alike creating memories for a lifetime. You might “dig in” and help children discover bones in our great mammoth dig site. Or maybe discussing conservation issues surrounding one of the world’s most endangered species, the Amur leopard, is more your style. Moving around the world to Africa, you’ll inform guests about giraffes, zebras, ostrich, antelope, and wildebeest. Just when you think you’ve experienced it all, you’ll journey to the underwater world of Discovery Bay exploring everything there is to know about sharks, dolphins, and an incredible array of fish and invertebrates. Summer Seasonal Volunteer Candidates Must be...
