Education Naturalist Internship (Zoo Camp)

Do you love children and animals? Interested in creating a frog with paper plates and googly eyes, howling like a wolf, and playing predator versus prey games? Then an education internship is just for you! The Minnesota Zoo prides itself on offering one of the most educational and entertaining summer day camp experiences in the Twin Cities offering a variety of classroom and curriculum internship experiences with children of all ages. We would love to have you a part of our team!

Summer Internship:

Approximately 400 hours between Memorial Day and Labor Day (start and end dates somewhat flexible). College credit required.

Responsibilities for the Education Department Internship include assisting with curriculum preparation, teaching, and classroom activities for the Zoo’s popular summer day camp—Zoo Camp. Work hours are 6-8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Duties to include:

  • Experience the zoo behind-the-scenes
  • Interact with a wide variety of zoo staff, such as zookeepers
  • Learn about our diverse animal collection
  • Enhance your public speaking skills
  • Present programs for zoo visitors
  • Gain experience with different styles of interpretation
  • Explore various teaching techniques for different grade levels
  • Work with children ranging in age from preschool to twelfth grade
  • Develop curriculum for new programs
  • Develop a project of interest to you
  • Care for small collection of education animals
