2014 Summer Educator Expedition in the Amazon!
Join us for the 2014 Educator Expedition in the Amazon Rainforest – guaranteed to be a life-changing, cross-curricular professional development experience for educators to learn and use new instructional approaches and protocols while exploring one of the world’s most important natural resources – the Amazon Rainforest.
From the Twin Cities we will head to Iquitos, Peru where we will board a boat on the Amazon River to spend 10 days immersed in the beauty, culture, and complexity of this unique place. A sampling of topics to be covered includes:

A pre-departure online course and community as well as follow-up projects where participants will implement their learning in classrooms and at the zoo are included in this Educator Expedition. We look forward to having you join us for this exciting adventure!

Audience: K-12 and informal educators
Fee: $2340 land cost, plus in-country air (~$300) and your int'l air roundtrip Lima (~$800-$1300)
Deposit: $400 due at registration (will be credited toward whole cost)

About your trip leader: Abby Moore recently took the reins as the School Programs Supervisor at the Minnesota Zoo. She is a huge believer in the value of authentic experiential learning and is thrilled to accompany a group of Minnesota educators on this trip of a lifetime in the Amazon. Abby has dedicated her career to developing science and environmental education programs that are fun, relevant and accessible. She has worked as a science teacher, interpretive naturalist, professional development coordinator, and Botanical Gardens education director, to name a few. She has traveled throughout Europe and Latin America and spent seven summers as a wilderness trip leader, exploring wilderness areas in the US and Canada. Abby holds a bachelor’s degree in geology, a teaching certificate in secondary science and a Master’s in Environmental Learning.
