Habitat: Canals, riversides, marshes, meadows, wood edges, roadsides, lakeshores, deltas.

Range: North America south of Hudson Bay from Great Basin eastward, west to eastern parts of Pacific states.

Facts: The Viceroy is famous for its mimicry of the Monarch butterfly. The Monarch is toxic to many animals when eaten. The Viceroy, which is not toxic, mimics the coloring of the Monarch as a form of protection from predators.
