Habitat: Moist meadows and deciduous woods in the East, also moist pine and oak woods, conifer forest openings and west meadows in the West.

Range: Central Canada to Northern U.S.

Facts: The name Fritillary comes from the Latin word for “dice box,” which is suggested by the orange and black checked pattern of this butterfly.
