Eurasian Eagle Owl

Description: The Eurasian Eagle Owl is the largest owl species in the world. It is an eared owl with feather tufts on the top of its head. It is tan with warm to pale brown bars on its wings and tail and streaks on the breast. It has large bright orange eyes and feathers down to the black talons. Eagle owls have a pronounced facial disk and a heavy black beak.

Similar species: There are about 12 species in the genus Bubo (the Eagle Owls). They are considered the nocturnal counterparts to the large birds of prey such as the eagles. The Great Horned Owl (B. virginianus) of North and South America is very similar in habits and appearance to B. bubo but is smaller.
